Uganda’s creative industry under the supervision of Dr. Dennis Daniel Ssemugenyi’s Every Birthday Tree Day Initiative (EBTDI) is preparing for a historic moment as the Simba Omuti Music Festival 2025 positions itself as one of the country’s biggest platforms for promoting environmental protection through music. Scheduled for December 20, 2025, at Millennium Park Lugogo, the festival aims to merge entertainment with a powerful call to safeguard Uganda’s natural heritage.
Organisers say this year’s edition has been deliberately themed around “Green Music for a Greener Uganda”, with performers using their stage time to amplify messages on tree planting, wetland conservation, responsible waste disposal, biodiversity protection, and climate resilience.
The festival name “Simba Omuti”, literally translated as “Plant a Tree”, reflects a cultural and environmental philosophy that blends tradition with modern activism. It is part of a growing national shift where musicians, poets, and performers are increasingly stepping into environmental advocacy, using their influence to mobilise communities—especially young people—towards sustainable practices.
Music Meets Environmental Action
According to the organisers, environmental conversations are now urgent, and the music industry is uniquely positioned to spark behavioural change. The open green spaces of Millennium Park offer the perfect backdrop for a festival that not only entertains but also inspires reflection about the future of Uganda’s forests, water bodies, and wildlife.
Festival activities will include:
-
Live performances from artists championing green messages
-
Eco-education booths run by environmental organisations
-
Tree-planting pledges for festivalgoers
-
Recycling and green product exhibitions
- 100 scholarships to be won by attendees, Courtesy of DDS limited
Event Manager Nandago Proscovia +256 706 168 849 says this year’s edition seeks to transform entertainment into action. “We want people to leave the festival excited about music—but even more excited about protecting the environment,” she noted.
