Uganda TodayFresh Attacks Emerge After Court Victory: Dr. Ssemugenyi Accuses Unknown Operatives of Brutalizing Staff

Kampala | Uganda Today — Just days after securing a major legal victory against DFCU Bank in the High Court, Dr. Dennis Daniel Ssemugenyi, the proprietor of Daniel Dennis Investment Group and Every Birthday Tree Day Initiative  (EBTDI), is now sounding the alarm over escalating acts of intimidation and violence allegedly targeting his associates and staff.

Speaking to Uganda Today, Dr. Ssemugenyi revealed shocking details of what he believes is a retaliatory campaign by shadowy individuals following the court’s decision ordering DFCU Bank to immediately unfreeze seven of his company’s bank accounts, which had been illegally blocked for over a year.

“They are not backing down. My staff are being hunted and attacked like criminals. My Ugandan coordinator, Gumisiriza Brian, was placed under surveillance, ambushed, and hit on the head. He was left for dead,” Dr. Ssemugenyi stated.

The latest incident involved a staff member Brian Gumisiriza of EBTDI whom Dr. Ssemugenyi had dispatched to file a formal complaint at police after unknown individuals allegedly broke into the company premises without any legal authorization.

“Now this is what they did to one of my staff who went to the Police to report the illegal intrusion into our offices. As he was returning home, they followed him, hit him with a brick, and warned him not to continue. He is bleeding from the nose and ears,” a visibly disturbed Ssemugenyi disclosed.

Photos and medical reports of the injured staff have reportedly been filed with authorities, and Dr. Ssemugenyi says he has escalated the matter to senior security officials, fearing for the lives of those around him.

A Pattern of Targeted Harassment?

The alleged violence raises broader concerns about the safety of whistleblowers, litigants, and business executives who dare to challenge powerful financial institutions or expose corruption networks within Uganda’s banking and security apparatus.

Legal experts say such acts—if proven—could amount to criminal obstruction of justice and human rights violations.

Dr. Ssemugenyi maintains that the freezing of his accounts was part of a calculated conspiracy involving some DFCU Bank staff, elements in the police, and high-ranking government officials—some of whom he has threatened to expose in due course.

“They want to silence me. But I will not be intimidated. The court has ruled, and I will not back down,” he asserted.

Police Yet to Comment

Efforts by Uganda Today to get a comment from Kampala Metropolitan Police by press time were unsuccessful. However, sources within the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) confirmed they had received a formal complaint and were “reviewing the matter.”

This comes at a time when concerns over abuse of state-linked security personnel to settle private disputes are rising, especially among members of the business community who feel exposed and vulnerable.

As developments unfold, Uganda Today will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.
