In a tragic development that has deeply shaken the Soroti City community, authorities have made two additional arrests in connection with the suspected murder of six-year-old Joan Faith Apio, a pupil at Jozan Nursery & Primary School. The latest individuals detained are Suzan Vivian Okedi, wife of the school’s director Joseph Okedi, and Okedi’s brother, whose identity has not been disclosed. These arrests follow the earlier detention of Director Joseph Okedi, Headteacher David Kadimba, Matron Osula Adongo, and an unidentified teacher.
East Kyoga Regional Police Commander Damalie Nachuha confirmed the ongoing investigation, stating, “We are working carefully to ensure we build a strong case. Once all necessary procedures are completed, the suspects shall face the law.” The police are meticulously gathering evidence to ensure a thorough and just legal process.

Mr. Isaac Orego, the incoming Soroti City East Member of Parliament, extended his condolences to the bereaved family and urged residents to remain calm. He emphasized the importance of participating in the extended national voters register update to prepare for upcoming elections. Additionally, Orego called upon parents to exercise caution in selecting schools for their children, underscoring the need for vigilance regarding the safety and well-being of students.
The tragic death of young Apio has led to the indefinite closure of Jozan Nursery & Primary School as investigations continue. The community remains in mourning, seeking justice for the innocent life lost and striving to ensure such an incident never recurs.
