Since 2019, the two presidents have had a series of meetings mediated by Angolan president Joao Manuel Goncalves Laurenco. These meetings didn’t yield conclusive amicable results until the recent visit of Uganda’s commander of land forces and presidential advisor on security General Muhoozi Kainerugaba who also doubles as president Museveni’s son to Kigali.
