Family Tragedy Unfolds in Mutungo
A somber mood engulfed Mutungo Zone 4 following the tragic death of 27-year-old Angela Namirembe, whose sudden demise in a motorcycle accident has unraveled deeply buried family secrets that have shaken her household and extended family circles.
Until her death, Namirembe was widely believed to be the biological daughter of Robert Mutebi and his wife Agnes Nakandi, a couple known in the Mutungo community. However, shocking revelations that surfaced after her passing have painted a different picture — one that has left Mutebi emotionally devastated and his marriage in ruins. Ironically, the mother had, prior to hear death revealed to her daughter who her real father was. Namirembe’s video recitation (okulanya) of her paternal origin was enough evidence which the mother and daughter kept buried from the insights of Mutebi.
Nambooze’s Surprise Involvement Raises Questions
According to sources close to the family, news of Namirembe’s death reached Mukono Municipality MP Hon. Betty Nambooze Bakireke, who immediately dispatched an ambulance to the hospital to retrieve her remains for burial in Jalamba, Mityana District.
It later emerged that Nambooze’s involvement stemmed from the fact that the deceased was her niece — the biological daughter of her brother, Mr. Kiwanuka, who lives abroad.
Mutebi Learns the Truth After 27 Years
The revelation that Namirembe was not his biological child came as a thunderbolt to Robert Mutebi, who had raised her as his firstborn with two others for nearly three decades. Mutebi, whose ancestral roots trace to Kakoola–Sinde, Kiboga District, had reportedly made arrangements to have his “daughter” buried there before the truth surfaced.
Overwhelmed by the shocking turn of events, Mutebi convened a tense family council meeting attended by his father, Samuel Mubiru (Salongo), and siblings. The meeting resolved to dissolve his marriage with Agnes Nakandi, whom relatives accused of betrayal and deception.
Community Reacts to the Scandal
The revelations have sparked heated discussions in Mutungo and beyond, with neighbors expressing mixed emotions over the incident. Some sympathized with Mutebi for his pain and loss, while others questioned why such truths often remain hidden until tragedy strikes.
“This is beyond heartbreak — it’s betrayal of the highest order,” lamented a close friend of the family. “No man deserves to discover such a truth in this manner.”
Burial and Aftermath
Angela Namirembe’s remains were eventually laid to rest in Jalamba, Mityana, under the supervision of her maternal relatives. Meanwhile, sources close to the Mutebi family reveal that plans are underway to formalize the separation between Mutebi and Nakandi, marking a bitter end to what once appeared a stable union.
